About Us
Siena is a venue for artistic dissemination, the essence of its existence is the Caribbean , rather than international, its a intra-national dimension. Its voice rises and its gaze focuses to defy schemes of segregation on the aesthetic, social, political, religious, racial or economic levels. Our objective is to promote the diversity and creativity of the Caribbean.
Practical limitations imply that in order to develop this project, concrete options must be considered in terms of names, themes, and techniques; but these options in no way entail a denial of what has been left out and paradoxically conforms us. The Gallery is the result of a much wider cultural context that contains and nurtures us. And, what is a culture, but a specific way of being and feeling that brings us closer to the rest of humanity in the construction of a collective project? We create ourselves as Human Beings when we take the decision to join other men and women that tread the path of harmony. We deny our humanity when we use our intelligence to label and justify segregations.
The Siena Gallery is a proposal for harmony, creativity and liberty. Consubstantial to universal equilibrium, harmony springs from the fundamental depths of a common origin projecting itself in the unity of purpose necessary for social existence. The path is history, culture is the umbilical cord.
Diversity is the creative extension of harmony. In effect, the intelligence of men and women is put to action in the presence of concrete needs and realities, within a specific time-space, generating genuine adaptable solutions, orchestrating and conceptualizing the chosen answers without exhausting the repertoire of options. This truth allows the path of art to remain open, well above the voices that from time to time announce its disappearance.
The path of Art nurtures itself with dreams, aspirations, understandings, experiences, projections, needs and tastes, pierced by the fire of a labyrinth of personal impressions that leads to perfectible, non-excluding solutions. To choose a path is to make an option. It is not to deny the possibilities of others. Old expressions were truths because in their moment they presented solutions. They are left behind when new realities spring up demanding new answers; the cycle remains open and each day it can be approached through a passage called creativity, illumined by a light that is flickering and insufficient to face all future happenings.
To be free is to remain open to a reality that reconstructs itself. To be free is to see similarities, to perceive differences, to allow the unavoidable flow towards an unknown road, through an elusive truth that invents new doors.
Siena is a door; your mind is the key ...to close it ...to open it. |
